Wireless network and AOL

I've got an "Addon" ADSL 802.11g wireless router which I'm running as a
LAN 'cos Broadband hasn't hit here yet! Host and client communicate
fine and share data but I can't get the client to access the dialup
modem in the host. It's set to "Share" but when I dialup from client I
get an error message on the host saying the port is already open or
modem not configured correctly.
Is this because AOL Topspeed is running?
All help gratefully received
David

surely you should be connecting from the client over the LAN not
"dialling up" at all ?

Mind, its America OnLine so anything can happen.

Thanks for response, Phil. As a network newbie, I may be stumbling in
the dark! The router is just providing a LAN since I haven't got BBand
yet. When I've connected to Net via diallup modem on the Host, I can't
access the Net from the Client. The error message on the client says
the port is already open is wrongly configured.
More help very welcome!
David

what IP address does the client have - look at the properties of the
network connection, or get a dos prompt by putting 'cmd' or 'command'
in the run box of start then do 'ipconfig /all' or just 'winipcfg' in
the Run box on Win98/ME.

can you ping the router and/or the other PC from this client 'ping
other.pc.ip.address' from a DOS prompt.

on the client PC in Internet Explorer have you set "never dial a
connection" in Tools Options Internet Connections or wherever it is.

Just to make things easier, I'm now getting a "Duplicate name on the
network" error!! How do I delete this duplication? I can't find where
the duplicate names are listed.
All help gratefully received
