Wireless Network Adapters for Red Hat 9

I'm new to Linux and would like to set up a computer and use a wireless
network adapter to connect to my internet connection. I have checked the
major vendor sites like 3Com, SMC, Belkin, Linksys, D-Link, and NetGear
sites and they don't have drivers for their wireless PCI cards. Does anyone
know if Red Hat 9 supports Wireless adapters natively or is it hit or miss.

Thanks Russell S.

My Linksys WCP11 was detected and is supported. I think I saw Linux
drivers on NetGear site a few months ago. Wireless is pretty well
supported. Some links.

Both -- RH-9.0 has a standard WiFi kernel module, orinoco_cs.
But it is a bit hit or miss, as while this module supports most older cards,
manufacturers sometimes change the chips in cards
without changing the name or even version of the card.

There is also a "rival" WiFi driver, wlan-ng .

Personally, I have been very happy with orinoco_cs,
using Orinoco Gold PCMCIA cards,
and also an Avayo/Lucent/Orinoco PCI-to-PCMCIA adaptor in a desktop.

I've had success with the Belkin USB wireless adapter F5D6050. It does
about 3mbit/s with 128bit WEP enabled, and seems very stable. It uses
the open source Atmel drivers from http://atmelwlandriver.sourceforge.net/

The only downside is that you need to recompile and install the driver
every time you upgrade the kernel.
