If you mean the wireless part.....

We are using a DECT base right next to our access point without any
problems.

I have a wireless keyboard and mouse and the only problem I find is if
the base unit for this is placed near to the base or handset of the
DECT phone, when the phone is in use.

1. What i'm looking for is to do away with the cable from the PC's
modem to the phone point in the hall

Will it interfere, signal wise, with a cordless phone?
Any other pros & cons?

Ah. This device doesn't exist. All the wireless modem/routers are wireless
between the modem/router and the PCs, not between the wall point and the modem.

There is actually no such thing as a wireless broadband modem, I believe. All the
modems (without integrated routers) that I am aware of are wired, there are no
modem/accesspoint combos. Those that have wireless are all combined
ADSL-modem/router/wireless-access-point devices, and require cable from the phone
socket to the device. PCs then connect to that device wirelessly or with cat5
network cable.

No. Neither, strictly speaking, is 576K.

Wouldn't it be a lot easier simply to wire an extension
from the hall to where the PC is?

Strictly speaking broadband has nothing to do
with speed, but is so called because multiple
signals are carried down the same conduit.

Possibly, but in my book it's 1M and above!
