My wireless usb device logs in fine with win XP. With win
98 I get a login message "no domain server available to
validate password... It seems that my wireless device
loads after my login so it cannot find the server. What
can I do to make 98 login like XP with my wireless.

You probably can't. Windows XP includes the "Wireless Zero Configuration"
service that starts the card before Windows starts. Windows 98 does not
have this service, cannot have this service, there's no way to add it. So
the card can only start after you log in.

On a (sort of) related issue, that of adding static routes before the
logon screen comes up, that is accomplished by adding entries to the
RunServices key eg.

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run Services
AddStaticRoutes="route.exe add ..."

Is it not possible to fire up the network card before logon using a
similar entry?

While playing with VPN into a Domain, I found that I could adjust
the settings in the network window, to log in after Windows was
up and running, and the connection was made.

I'd have to dig for specifics, it's been awhile.
I'm sure someone, more knowledgable here, can explain it better.
