My comp-usa wireless card (yeah, that old RTL8185L/RTL8225) is finally
*almost* working in Linux(FC4). I installed Ndiswrapper (the correct way
this time) and now have a wlan0 device. Under iwconfig, it shows as set
up with 2mbps(not quite...), no/any essid, etc. It also says something
about wireless extensions 17, recommend 18. Anyway, this looks like a
dud configuration. I open kwifimanger, and it shows similar
configuration (connected to: any, 2mbps, etc.) When I use it to search
for ssid's, however, I do find my router. Neither light is on at all on
my card. Can you fix it?

Fix what? You have not told us what is wrong.
Make sure that you are using the latest ndiswrapper as well.
The latest is 1.10

In a console do
iwlist s
do you see any reports from the wireless card? If you do, then it is
probably working.

I have either 1.0 or 1.1, I don't know (and don't feel like walking to
my other computer to find out). Anyway, scratch the old question. I used
"iwlist scanning" and found my router. I did a "iwconfig essid
[whatever]" and it started up. I had good readings, and it was working
fine, for about 6 seconds. Then the computer locked up. Why and how do I
fix it?

The easiest most reliable solution is to use a wireless bridge. They're
popular with video game enthusiasts and can be had for $50.
