I am having a wierd problem....

Two machines 1 desktop one laptop adhoc 802.11b network
Desktop has a Linksys Instant wireless USB adapter
Laptop has a Runtop WA1220 PCMCIA card
Both run XP Pro using windows zero configuration.
Network is running fine.

Every now and then the Laptop crashes completely (Freezes and needs the
power pulled) When this occurs it will not reboot all the time the network
card is present (Freezes mid boot) and if it is booted and the network card
inserted it will crash imediately, but only while it is in range of the
other machine. The only way to stop this is to remove the adapter from the
Desktop machine, plug it back in and re-run the network set up wizard on the
desktop machine (which does not appear to change any of the network settings
because they are all as they should be anyway)
The laptop is then fine, a few days later it will reoccur.

Both machines are fairly recent fresh installs.

Anyone got any ideas???

Bad card or failed driver installation. Fix the latter first.

The next time the laptop with the pc-card is stable, from device manager
expand the view to show hidden devices, remove the network adapter and
any phantoms that show up, then shut down. Remove the card. Boot and
reinstall the pc-card driver. After the driver is installed, insert the
card and reestablish the network.

If this fails, it is probable the net adapter is broken.
