Hi,
I have a recurring problem with a new wireless PCMCIA card in that it won't
let me renew the IP information from the DHCP Server. It's a new WLAN card,
on an exisiting Laptop on the network. The Laptop has full connectivity when
connected through the LAN.
The OS is Win98SE.
Acer Travel Mate 522iT
Wireless Lan Card (DLink) DWL-G650
Integrated LAN - Intel 82557 10/100
Router - WAP (Dlink) DI-624
I can connect the LAN card to the switch to renew/release the IP address,
but as soon as I insert the PCMCIA card, (without the LAN cable connected)
the machine loads standard local settings (167.xxx.xxx.xxx) with no Default
gateway. Sometimes it gets the 192.xxx address from the DHCP Server, others
the 167.xx address.
Some times the control gets the DHCP lease (as correct) but won't connect to
the Internet via the GW, as set.
Normally, when I release the IP lease, it errors (Blue Screen - Exception
errror) 0028:0000000A in VXD ---. Called from 0028:00000000 in VxD ---.
Followed by:
(Blue - Fatal Exception 0E ... 0028:C00319D4)
(Blue - Fatal Exception 0E ... 0028:C00140DB VXD VMM(01) + 00130DB)
(Blue - Fatal Exception 0D ... 16BF:014775B6)
(Blue - Fatal Exception 0D ... 0246:014747FB)
(Blue - Fatal Exception 0E ... 0028:C00140DB in VXD VMM(01) +000130DB)
(Blue - Fatal Exception 0E ... 0028:C00319BD)
(Blue - Fatal Exception 0E ... 0028:C0031BFA)
(Blue - Fatal Exception 0E ... 0028:C0031BFA)
(Blue - Fatal Exception 0E ... 0028:C0031BFA)
- Machine then stops responding:
LOG Details from the Router / WAP show:
Aug/26/2003 22:21:07 Wireless PC connected 00-40-05-30-18-5A
After Uninstalling & Reinatalling the entire driver set for all Networking
Devices (Except DUN) I put the card in a again to find:
(Blue Screen - Exception errror) 0028:00000013 in VXD ---. Called from
0028:00000000 in VxD ---.)
With no further errors - Just a frozen computer.
Link lights are blinking on the PCMCIA Card (which I think indicates that
the connection is made and active).
There originally was an error on this machine, PROTMAN.DOS was not loaded
properly, so this was causing an error in the NET START call in the
system.ini file. After I re-extracted it from the W98 CD, this error
disappeared. I have also seen errors relating to NDIS, but can't get it to
appear again.
From what I can deduce, the Networking component is working fine, but there
appears to be some sort of conflict when the PCIMCIA card comes on line
which is casuing the problem. I can renew/release the LAN IP as many times
without causing the problems. But as the PCMCIA card comes into the device
sequence, it doesn't like that at all.
My question is. Can I remove the networking component without having to
trash the whole install? Or can I just amputate that and insert a more
effective (working) version of it. I don't even think that this is the root
of the problem. Has anyone seen this before?
Without the PCMCIA card installed at the boot sequence, the machine boots
fine, when it is inserted, it hangs. I have a feeling that it may be
something in the PCI Controller? What are the troubleshooting steps for
such.
Other things I have tried:
- Uninstall the Network Card (Drivers & Device)
- Uninstall the PCMCIA Card & Drivers and trying the different slot.
- Disable the Integrated LAN card from the hardware profile.
Any help would be great, event if it is a link to your favorite site (giving
some tips of course).
Thanks in advance,
Paul M.
