Wireless in Hotels - Microwaves

My hotel is setting up a wireless system, and I was wondering if anyone has
any suggestions about problems with Microwaves in hotel rooms.

Not all our rooms have microwaves, but while testing the system they did
disrupt the signal a bit. I guess we would just have to have a disclaimer that
there might be minor signal problems when microwaves are in use. How do other
hotels or businesses deal with this?

Any suggestions would be great!

One thing that Might help is to put the clamp on ferrite filters on the
power cord of the microwave right next to the case. This will help reduce
the signal leaking through the power cord. Also, have the cleaning crew
spend time cleaning the door seal, which is the other main leak of
microwaves from the oven. Also, check to see which channels have the most
interference from which ovens, and use the ones with the least observed
interference.

After that, remind people that WiFi will be interfered with by many
possible sources, microwave ovens included.

Use 802.11b as your protocol. I don't believe it has the interference
issues that 802.11b has. Does you hotel offer cordless phones in the
rooms? They may cause an issue with 'g' as well. I don't see that g
offers anything over b unless you are expecting folks to use their
laptops as ad-hoc networks.

802.11b & g have exactly the same interference issues, as they use the same
frequencies. It's 802.11a that uses a different band.

You are correct. That's what I get for answering before the coffee
kicks in. I actually had my mind on the 900mhz vs 2.4/5.8Ghz phones
interfence issues.
