Wireless Home Network Question

I would like to connect my laptop to my desktop through a wireless
network for the purpose of transfering files and occasional internet
use. My desktop has dialup internet as there is no cable or DSL in my
area. What equipment will be required for this setup? Would I need a
wireless router or could this be done simply using two wireless
network cards?

Yes, you can use two wireless NIC's in Ad-Hoc with ICS enabled.

If you just want to transfer files, it would be cheaper and simpler to buy a
crossover Cat 5 cable and connect the 2 machines. Key word is crossover.

Or the OP has a dial-up connection and wants the freedom of one machine
to move around with a wireless Internet connection.

But on the other hand, the OP can get a dial-up NAT router and Wireless
Access Point (WAP) and plug it into the router. It would be the better
solution.
