I've not got my broadband installed yet (tues 8th june) but i have installed
my router and the wireless bits to two home pc's and my laptop.

i have changed the name of my network from the defaulted NETGEAR and all
three computers can see the router using the new name i have allocated.

what's my next step to get the computers to see each other?

also each pc shows a different ip, the router is 192.168.0.1 with the other
pc's .2 .3 and .4 but the number lights do not light up on the router.

i assume that when broadband arrives becuase each pc can see the router that
broadband will be readily available.

should i allocate a WEP number as well?

i think i'm close to getting the network set up but any advise would be
appreciated.

They won't, those are to indicate CABLED connections and only let you
know when a cable connection to the equivalent numbered socket on the
back is active. THe numbered LEDs on the front don't have anything to
do with IP addresses.

Set up shares on it. See if you can access those shares by typing:

Staret, Run, \\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the IP addy of
the little bugger).

If that works then a workaround is to create a shortcut on each of the
other machines and in the run command of the shortcut enter \\IPaddress
of remote machine

Also do some googling using Windows XP slow network browsing as the
search.

i cracked the network, pc 3 can be a bit tempremental but all three can see
each other and i have secured it using wep.

thanks for the advice.

only slight snag i have now is BT cocked up and cancelled my installation
for broadband without telling me.

i spent the whole day at home today waiting for an engineer that was never
coming.

it would appear to be another month before I can break free of my ISDN.
