My advice is to avoid wireless USB adapters. The drivers aren't mature
and USB is not well suited as a protocol to wireless. Instead look at
something like this:

http://usa.asus.com/products/communi...g/overview.htm

Other manufacturers have similar products now. These devices use an
ethernet port instead of a USB port so drivers aren't a problem. Also
usable as an access point.

Hi,

Does anyone know if it exists wireless (802.11g)USB adapters for linux.
I found a lot of solutions (drivers) for windows, but not for linux.

Thanks,

Olivier

It seems indeed a good solution, to avoid problems with usb drivers.
Thanks for the idea.

Can someone quickly and in a sentence or two explain the distinction between
a "wireless ethernet adapter" and an "access point?" I think I know but

Wireless Ethernet Adapter: A network card that connect to a computer and
allow access to a network trough radio signal instead of cable
Access Point: a device that allow Wireless devices to connect to a cabled
network.

An access point is a server; a wireless adapter is a client. Sometimes
a device can be switched from one to the other.

They're the two opposite ends of the same cable.

In a cable-less setting, of course .

Quite misleading: there can be many clients (adapters) for the same
server (access point) which doesn't correspond to a cable at all. An
access point is more like a hub or switch, allowing many "wireless
cables" to connect to it.

And such a box as this, could therefore be used both "to connect," and "to
be connected to by others." Thank you.
