Wireless file sharing question

Finally got a wireless network running, and am sharing a cable
broadband connection on my laptop.

Both the desktop and laptop are running XP. I have enabled network
file sharing on several folders on my desktop, but have not been able
to figure the method to access these files on the laptop.

How do you go about bringing up these files? Is there supposed to be
some type of icon on the laptops desktop or tray which gives access.
Appreciate any help with this. Thanks.

Hi, If you are trying to access the shared files from another computer to
your laptop, it should be very simple to view them...
Click start--->right click "My Network Places"-->click "show on desktop".

Double click the new destop icon, and in the top left table left click "view
Workgroup Computers"

If you see your desktop there, why not right click it and drag it to the
desktop as a short cut.

If you dont see your desktop:
Is "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks" installed on both
computers?
I would check to make sure that your user and passwords list on both
computers are the same too.

Still not visible:
Check to see if both computers are using the same IP class/subnet, if not:
ammend the values so that they are on the same but for the LAST digit in the
IP address.

Are you using Internet Connection Sharing?
If you are the main comp that connects should be 192.168.0.1 subnet
255.255.255.0
Then your laptop should be eg... 192.168.0.2/ default gateway 192.168.0.1
Obtaining the IP address automatically on the laptop (if using ICS) should
work everytime so that all computers on that subnet are given an IP address,
and so workgroup file sharing would also be available.

Regards
Alan

Install the MS NetBEUI protocol from the XP CD.

Someone made an excellent suggestion in a post on another thread. Read the
