As subject really. I setup a wireless connection the router etc. It runs
well except that it drops connection and then quickly
reconnects no problem. But its a problem if I'm downloading as I lose what I
have and have to restart, I've taken to using a download manager now.

I followed the instructions carefully and have gone through it all carefully
and am sure its setup correctly.

As I'm no expert obviouly I thought I'd ask ou guys who are well versed with
wireless.

I'm using windows xp on both computers, and the router is a DSL G624T
ireless adsl router.

I'd appreciate any input on solving this problem.

I'll go through the manual trouble shoot guide again but hopeflly someone
will be able to enlighten me on how to solve this problem.

Thanks

What adapter are you using to connect to the G424T?

You said in original post that it was 2 PCs connecting to the DLink --
do they both exhibit the same behaviour and have the same wifi adapters?

If they do then this suggests the router is at fault. Some thoughts to
try:
1. Change the wireless channel to 1, 6, or 11
2. Temporarily remove wireless encryption
3. Try 802.11B rather than G or mixed

Try each change individually and then test. The only other question is
are you using the M$ Wireless Zero to connect or another utility? The M$
is very reliable IME.

If none of the above solve the problem could you beg/borrow/steal
another router to see if it is actually the G624T causing the problem.

Interference ?
Suggested Channel change is a good idea , 11 seems the default channel
so I always use 1 or 6 !
The router is not positioned very near a cordless phone, microwave or
similar is it ?

Opsy, what I mean was I have one wireless laptop and another laptop which is
connected o the router. Only one laptop is wireless enabled,

Hi Tony,

Thanks for the very informative reply.

I've changed it to channel 6, and have the options of bg mode to B only.
Other options are B+ G only and G+. It was on mixed.

Also not related theres an option to hide the SSID should I hide it or leave
it as it is ?

Thanks

The router is a meter or so from the cordless phone ?

I gather moving it would be a good idea

Unless you are moving around wifi networks alot on your laptops I would
hide the SSID - no point in advertising it if you don't have to .

Apart from all the other good point given, I'd suggest you check your router
has the latest firmware available for it.
Had dropout problems with my own D Link router til I updated the firmware.

One of the router setup staus screens will tell you what firmware is
installed.
You can then go to the D Link UK support web pages to see what version they
have for your router model.

Good luck gettin it sorted.

I was thinking along those lines yesterday and went to the dlink site and
put in my routers details and they said it has been discontinued. I couldn't
see any sign of the firmware unless I may have missed where it is ?

The current version I have is V3.00B01T02.UK-A.20060208

I can't see on the site if there is a newer one available ?

Thanks
