wireless with dialup

I've searched for relevant threads but can't seem to locate any specific to
my situation.

Is it possible to use a wireless laptop to access the internet using a
dialup account?

If a wireless router has an RJ-11 jack, can I plug this to the wall outlet
and have the laptop dialup through the router? Can this be done instead with
a wireless access point providing it has an RJ-11?

Thanks in advance.

There's no particular reason why not. Packets are packets.

I must admit I've never seen a wireless router with an RJ11 jack. I think
you are looking at two devices - one of those ancient modem sharing servers
and then a wireless access point.

The RJ-11 you're seeing is probably for Voice Over IP but if you find a
router that does work with dial up (they are out there but I don't remember
who makes them, sorry) it will work.

You're confirming my suspicion that this situation may be somewhat unusual.
I haven't purchased yet, but will keep my eye out for the RJ-11 on the
router.

Thanks again.

Thanks again. You've confirmed my suspicion.

BINGO!
ActionTec Dual PC modem
has a v.92 modem, and then a DHCP server for two ethernet jacks.

supports dial on demand.. i.e. you ask for a webpage in your browser,
it goes to the actiontec, and dials your ISP...
add a WIFI AP like a Wap11 and you have EXACTLY what you want.

The ActionTec Dual Modem/Router works as advertised,
but it doesn't support "port forwarding" so if you
need to become a "server" (e.g. for online games)
or some messaging services) you may wish to look
elsewhere. Maybe the Multitech RF102S would work.
