Have a Dell Lat 600 laptop with built in 11b wireless access. The
Laptop was connected to the LAN. The wireless was not connected to any
access point, but was not disabled either. With MS Word open, I was
typing a doc and then text started appear in the word doc. I disabled
the wireless and it stopped. Anybody seen anything like this? Is this
cross-talk? is this an attack? is this a bug? Thanks in advance for
any thoughts, ideas...

Eric

Heh-heh...
Yes, I HAVE seen this behavior and it drove me absolutely crazy trying
to figure out what was going on. It seems that certain releases of of MS
Office install with speech recognition turned on by default. What you're
seeing is Word trying to use your PC's microphone to "take dictation".

If the text is "real words" not just garbage then it's probably the speech
recognition alright. It might be possible for an unused sound input to pick
up the garbage from the WLAN and then the speech recognition S/W turns it
into real words. Neat eh?

And if the words say : "WHAT THE %&*^) IS WRONG WITH THIS $%#@# COMPUTER!!!"
