Wireless Connection

Hello again.

I'm gonna be brief and clear.
I have problems with my wireless connection ONLY in my house. I have a
Belkin wireless card and a Linksys router. When a installed everything the
first time, the problem began because the wirless connection was disconnected
over and over again. Then I thought the problem was with the wireless card,
so I changed it for a new one. The same problem happened again. So then I
thought the problem was the router, and I bought a new one. But the new one
that I'm using now, is Belkin. The problem is still happening.

The most important thing here, is that when I use my wireless card in some
other places it works perfectly. No disconnections at all.
So, I don't know what the problem might be. Should I do something with my
telephone connections? I mean, is the problem here in my house? I read an
article here in these newgroups and somebody mentioned the telephone filter.
Can that be the problem?
I cannot continue buying new hardware. I already have two routers and both
of them work just fine.
Please help me. I want to use my wireless connection, without being
disconnected.
I don't know where the problem is.

Help please.

Thank you.

it surely is the problem in ur home ..the cause may be microwave,
cordless telephone, nextdoor wwireless or any other device that works
on the GHz range...first try changing the channel of ur wireless ,i
guess it should be 6 by default.also try to upgrade the firmware.
on the application running the wireless card there should be an option
"ignore intrupts" ,this is also a common problem wil AOL.
try to change the location of ur base station and be sure ur laptop is
not too far away from the router.
is there a fixed schedule that the network disconnects?.if it is then u
need to change the lease of ur IP

Hamy, thanks.

According to your comments. I live in an apartment and it is small, so the
router is not so far away from the laptop. Second of all, I don't have any
cordless telephones, not even a microwave. Nextdoor wireless? That could be
an option, 'cause my router detects there are some wireless connections
around.
I'll try to change the channel, I did it when I was using the linksys
router. I'll do it with the new one. I don't think that is the problem
anyway, because it continued.
There isn't a fixed schedule for the disconnections, at least I've noticed
that. It could happen anytime during my session.
Should I do something with the connections, I mean, the cables?

Thank you hamy for your help. I hope I still can receive advice from you.

Hamy:

Sorry about my ignorance. But I don't understand your question. When I'm
kicked off the network, isn't it the same to be dropped from the internet?
Let me tell you, everytime the connection failed, the wireless card tried to
detect wireless connections again and when it happened, it reconnected
automatically. So during this short period of time of disconnection, I was
not able to connect to the Internet.

George, let me ask you a question. What type of hardware are you using for
this setup? Did you set IEEE 802.1x Authentication on your router? I sort
of doubt you're running any encryption at all (not even WEP?), so perhaps
your wireless device in the computer has been set to look for the IEEE
802.1x encryption, which would allow you to connect for maybe a couple
minutes, then boot you off the Local Area Network, then find it again, and
repeat the same process.

Try going into Network Connections, then right-click the icon representing
your LAN and select Properties. You should now have a screen which says
Wireless Network Connection Properties across the top, with three tabs
available - General, Wireless Networks and Advanced.

Go to the Wireless Networks tab, and you will see a section in the middle of
the screen which should list local "Preferred networks." Find the name of
your Local Area Network, and single left-click that to highlight it. Now
click the Properties button. You will be presented with another screen with
three additional tabs showing. You want the Authentication tab.

Look in the box next to "Enable IEEE 802.1x authentication for the network,
and if there is a check mark in the box, remove it by clicking on it. OK
your way back out, close the Network Connections screen and restart your
system. Now see how the connection behaves.
