Wireless connection goes slow

Hi. I have a wireless router and a client with a pci prism card. I'm
using the linux-wlan drivers which work fine, except the speed: the
maximum I can reach is 180 K/s, while the connection is supposed to go
up to 11 mbits/s.
Does anyone have a clue about the problem?
Thanks in advance

I assume that 180 is kilobytes not kilobits?

What does /usr/sbin/iwconfig show for Link Quality, Signal level and Noise
level? If link quality is down, it may be connected at lower speed.

With WAP11 in basement and laptop on main floor I typically get Link
Quality in 60's or 70's, but just moving laptop a few inches left/right
can make a difference. Older version of SMC 2632W pc card using wlan-ng
connected to WAP11 v2.2 typically gets 600 KB/s open system and about half
that using WEP, but still faster than my 1500/256 adsl, so no big
deal.

Exactly.

Link quality is 54/92
Signal level is -53 dBm
Noise level is -95 dBm

I don't really understand these value, but the network is supposed to
work at 11 mbps, and the client is just 30 feet away from the router,
with no particular obstacles between itself and the router.
Anyway there's another machine connected with an ethernet wire to the
router, which works the right speed, thus I infer that the problem is
more likely of the pci card... Might there be any option to set up the
speed rate?

Well, 600 K wouldn't be that bad, but 180 is really too little.
Thanks again

Well, my router customer care replied to my issue advicing me to
disable the SPI firewall in the router configuration utility.
I did it, and now I can go up to 550 K/s, which is not that bad.
Wondering if I could get to 11 mbps...
See ya.
