Wireless connection changes

My friend has a Windows XP machine (I think it's Pro but I am not sure).
Last week we installed a LinkSys access point and everything was working.
Now he complains that his wireless connection changes to another one in the
middle of browsing. We don't know which of his neighbors the other one
belongs too. Sometimes it changes back to his access point.

What can be wrong and what can be done?

First thing to do is: “Secure the Wireless Network”.

Wireless Security - http://www.ezlan.net/Wireless_Security.html

Then look in Windows Zero Configuration and Remove any unwanted Wireless
source from the list of preferred Connections.
