Kit??? Really don't what you mean.
Anyway I have a firewall/router already setup (linux debian woody),
and needed a wireless access point. I purchased a wireless syslink
router (which was a mistake should have purchased an access point). I
used a direct connection to the router and setup the router using
http://192.168.1.1, and disabled the services I did not need e.g.
DHCP. Then I changed the fixed ip address on the wireless router to
work with my local private network. This is an important step. Plugged
the wireless router in the the ethernet hub and the rest was history.
At first it did not work because I was trying to use the WAN port
which is supposed to connect to the internet. The reason the WAN port
did not work for me because I was not able to turn off NAT on the WAN
port and the effect was doing NAT twice which won't work. I just
plugged the wireless router directly into my hub from a regular port
on the wireless router. It worked like a charm.
As a bonus the wired ports or the wireless router also work just fine
with this setup.
I think this is easier to do with an access point, since you already
have a wired router. This the same situation that I had. I gave the
wireless router to my dad and will try a wireless access point next
week.
This sounds like what you want to do. Give us an update on what you
decided to do and the results. However, what you want is doable just
do it ;-). I did this in Linux using only the web browser interface so
you should be able to setup system in Windows, and I did not change
any other settings. All that is needed is a web browser.
Hope this helps.
