i have a wireless card built into my laptop and for some strange reason
either the software or my board is not reading it or regestering it as an
available network. I was wondering what i could do to get my system to see
the card. I have gone through all the settings i know of to try and configure
this and nothing is working, any help would be greatly apprecciated. Thank
you.

Can you see your device in device manager? You can get to device manager by
going to start...run and typing devmgmt.msc.

You should see your wireless card under network adapters.

If it is not there or if the device shows up there as an unknown device or
if there is a yellow "!" then you need new drivers for this card. Please go
to your lap top's website for updated drivers for your device. If updated
drivers don't help then you may have an internal card that is
malfunctioning.

And let's not forget the on-off switch. Since we don't exactly know what
the OP means by "not registering", there is always the possibility that
the wireless is turned off. A lot of the newer laptops have a button or
switch to turn the wireless on and off. He should check to make sure
it's on.

Device Manager did not recognize the wireless card. The manufacture's
software update i.e new drivers is of no help. I am baffled, there is a
switch built into the monitor (laptop is a lifebook) and am wondering if it
might be faulty, however I dont see how that would make the device not
register under device manager. Any further help appreciated. thank.

It sounds like your wireless card is broken. Try with a different one.
Perhaps you have a friend who can lend you one. You might try your card
in his machine and if it isn't recognized there, then you know it isn't
working. Stuff does break.
