I've just ordered broadband from Telewest and I'd like to configure a
wireless network. I understand it plugs into the set-top box (who on
earth has their PC next to the TV????). My set-top box is downstairs
and I have 2 desktop PCs upstairs as well as a laptop (Centrino, I've
connected to WiFi networks with no problem) that I sometimes use at
home.
I'd appreciate advice from anyone who has set up something similar.
Cheers,
Tim

Do not use the STB internet connection ! It is limited to 1Meg D/L
You need a cable modem ( Stand Alone ) since the normal minimum connection
to blueyonder will be 2meg/256k, if not now by early Feb 2006
If it is a new installation I would have thought that Blueyonder would no
longer be using the STB connection
I have a 1M / 128k connection soon to be upgraded ( Free) to 4M / 384k

Thanks, Yddap
I guess it should be a stand alone cable modem rather than STB because
I specified 256k - hopefully, my wife can persuade them to cable it
upstairs because I won't be here when they install it.
Cheers,
Tim

Tim, I have a STB and no modem - max connection speed is 1mb thru a STB,
It's £ 17.99
a month. I have a Belkin 125 Mbs high speed router connected to the STB this
gives fast
wireless Internet access on the laptop.

I configured the router on this main PC then formatted it afterwards, I
didn't have to install any BY software on this one - the router let me
straight in.
I have a further 2 pc's on my wired network. 1 of which also has a USB
wireless card in event of main pc being switched off. It finds the belkin
router no probs.
