For a wireless network between two buildings about 100' apart, what kind of
router is likely to work best? Both computers run Windows XP. TIA

Buffalo is the only brand I know of whose routers will link two
buidlings and serve local clients at the same time.

I have Draytek Vigor 2600We working in similar setup, highly recommended.
See if you can line up the signal via windows, Orinoco USB adaptors are
useful, can be placed on a window sill on up to 5m length of USB cable.
Regards,
Martin

Apple's AirPort Extreme Base Station can bridge and serve local wireless
clients simultaneously. It can also bridge to and from Buffalo's
products. AFAIK, both brands use the same Broadcom chips.

I called Buffalo at 800-456-9799 and got useful help as to what to try
first - add directional antennaes later if needed. Had called the buycom
Linsky help line where tech person reinforced the idea that Linsky routers
may not work between buildings - no support for that anyway. So I'll
definitely go with Buffalo. Thanks!
