Wireless Belkin network problem

I have a win98 se pc connected to a belkin wireless broadband router but
cannot get the basic network connectivity between the two. I cannot ping the
router on 192.168.2.1 from the win98 pc (and i have enabled icmp on the
router). The router is acting as dhcp and when i access the router from
another (xp pc) which is hard wired to it, it shows that an ip address has
been issued to the win 98 machine (192.168.2.3) but the win98 machine
doesn't seem to pick it up.Running ipconfig /all on the win98 shows some odd
things i can't reconcile ie it has what lookslike an internet ip address on
a subnet of 255.255.0.0.

I am coming to the conclusion this is nothing to do with wireless and it is
a win98 problem operating on dhcp.

Can anybody help with this?

cheers

phil
