Your WAP upstairs will enable multiple PC's to connect to the Internet from
it using that one hard-wired connection to the WAP downstairs. If you have
a laptop, you can be upstairs with a good signal to the WAP upstairs and
when you're downstairs, have yuor laptop connect to the WAP downstairs. I
have basically the same setup at work. I have one WAP upstairs in the
conference room and I have one downstairs in the central office area so that
our road warriors can tune in their laptop to whichever WAP near where
they're at in the office and work away wirelessly.
Hope this helps.
