New here. Probably been asked before but like to know if anyone here is
wireless and gaming on the net ? Moving to a two story house soon and will
have 4 comps hooked up. Right now with router and LAN lines. Hate to string
up a bunch of cat 5 cable in the next home.

If it's doable what's the recommendations here on a successful setup ? Any
links to sites out there ?

Thanks.

I don't game on the net, so can't directly comment. However, the speed
of a wireless network will well exceed the speed of a normal cable or
ADSL connection.

Mark,

I have a 50% wired and 50% wireless environment in my 3 story house - and my
kids and I game all the time (Rogue Spear series, Everquest and others). I
have not had any issues that were related to wireless and gaming. The
response times seem very comparable to wired environments.

Using D-Link 802.11b gear with 256-bit encryption and their 4X and
22-mbit modes enabled my typical round trip time for small packets
is between 5-6ms.

In most instances, the bottleneck will be the internet connection (often
limited to 1.54mbps) rather than any LAN equipment. 802.11b networks at
11mbps is plenty for this purpose.
