Wireless Adapter conflict w/ Msgsrv32 on WinMe

I think maybe I slapped the card in before installing the
disk.. there's been too many reboots between now and then
to remember exactly what happened originally, but the
results are the same everytime;

plug in the card and the Msgsrv32 gives a (not responding)
that I have to cntr-alt-del out of..

running the install disk, it hangs up with the same
problem at the point in the install that asks for the
adapter to be inserted..

Any clues on how to resolve this conflict?
