so i sit down at starbucks with a laptop and connect wirelessly to the
t-mobile network that theyre broadcasting. when i open up internet explorer
im automatically taken to a t-mobile page to sign up. how are they doing
this? my homepage is still set to what i have it set to so im thinking
theres a DNS thing goin on somehow. cant be a proxy because i never
configured one. could the DNS server that im being handed somehow be
configured to give this page out for every request?

They are running some type of "Internet Cafe" software. It is a special
system. Hotels tend to work the same way. I have never got to stick my
little fingers into one, so I don't know exactly how it does what it does.
