Hello group,

I'm new to the whole wireless access stuff so if this question has been
asked before please forgive me for asking it again, LOL.
I just bought a new Belkin wireless card for my laptop it's the 802.11b
54Mbps card. Now my question is I am not sure how I would go by locating
access points for my card. I do not have a wireless router in my home I just
want to be able to access the internet on available access points in my
community or at a starbucks or whatever. I am not sure if the card will try
to find a access point or will I need to install software that will search
for it? I did install the software that came with the card and that works
fine I just don't know how I should go by accessing a point or is will the
card automatically do it for me? any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Mel

all cards will hunt for AP's
AP's send broadcast msgs
so both will speak to each other
whether you can surf / log on etc depends on the AP's and how they are
setup, you may need to pay to surf, need WEP keys to log on etc etc
do some research on the locations/Hot spots you expect to visit
