Any suggestions to solve the following problem will be appreciated:
Needed: Wireless Internet access
Location: Bahamas- Closest Phone service is three miles away. I can
have a phone line put in at the last "Telephone Pole".
56k dialup internet service will be available on this phone line.
Any suggestions on a wireless system which could provide internet
access?
I assume a Directional antenna would probably help with the distance
problem. I have looked at the following:
http://www.aerocomm.com/Pkg/connexmodem.htm
but am open to any other possibilities. As you can tell I am a newbie
to wireless.
Thanks,
Mark

A router with a RS232 port can be used with a dail-up modem. Then one
could get a wireless AP and connect it to the router. SMC and D-link have
routers with a RS232 port.

Three miles is doable, given the right conditions. First of all, you are
going to need a clear line of sight between the antenna. Assuming you
have that, two 24 dbi parabolic antennas would give you the best
performance.

Have you explored using DirecPC satellite broadband?
