Having moved various house wiring I now have no need for wireless and
could do without the security risks and Belkin.

Anyone got any idea what is a good ADSL modem router?

8Mb connection that normally runs at about 6Mb (70m from local exchange :-)

Connected via BT line to Newnet.

Use Windows XP Pro SP2, firefox, thunderbird and IE7 when I have to.

Need at least 2 ports. Ethernet is fine.

TIA for any suggestions.

Sod the 6Mb, i'd go LLU if I could !

What are your attenuation and noise levels like ?

http://www.samknows.com should be able to tell you if your exchange
has been LLU'd, and by whom... then check out what your potential
connection would be here:

http://www.dontbethere.co.uk/forum/d...spx?f=2&m=3875

I'm with Sky, about 2.8km from the exchange, and getting between 3800
to 4800 kbits/sec connection rates, with attenuation of around 50dB*
and noise levels of 6-10dB

* This seems to vary quite a lot, so i'm trying to borrow a laptop so
I can check it at the test socket - the phone extensions were hard-
wired a few years ago, and might be picking up noise from the mains
wiring, which is quite close for a large proportion of the runs.

Turn off the wireless access point on your current setup?

Amazingly enough there doesn't seem to be a way to disable wireless. I
don't know whether it was the same model but in a recent thread someone
said they had contacted Belkin who said there was no way to disable
wireless.
It would be much easier to have a wires only and not have to worry about
WPA, getting problems with restricted MAC addresses etc. Be nice to just
plug any PC in and be able to go.

why not just unplug the aeriel? then the signal should be so poor that
nobody can latch onto it?
