I have a one-way trust where DomainW2k3 (Windows 2003) trust DomaintNT4
(windows NT 4.0). The trust is established through a firewall, ports are
open. I have setup a WINS server in DomainW2k3 as well as DomainNT4, both
are setup as Pull/Push replication partners, there is a second WINS server in
DomainNT4, but it is not setup to replicate with the WINS server in
DomainW2k3; but it does replicate with the primary WINS server in domain
DomainNT4.
When replication occurs between the WINS servers in DomainNT4 and
DomainW2k3, it seems to work; both WINS databases contain records of each
other. I disabled "Replicate Only With Partners", the reason for this was
that I was receiving errors concerning "drop connection from remote WINS
host". Now when replication occurs there is an entry in the logs that
"...an update notifications was received from WINS host <IP ADDRESS>", the IP
address given in the logs is that of the firewall. Network monitoring show
the communication between the two WINS servers and their IP address. Some
of the problems I am facing:
*Slow access across attaching to or browsing network from workstations;
however from the DC access to the resources in DomainW2k3 is fast.
*When I view the browse list (from DomainNT4) for DomainW2k3 is see the host
in DomainNT4.
*"Currently no logon servers available to service the request" when
accessing the PDC Emulator DomainW2k3.
Thanks!
