Wins pointer?

My Vpn has never worked. I can connect but cannot see
the shared folders on remote connection. I've already
enabled Netbios over TCP/IP on all machines but still
no folders in site.
Someone told me I needed to setup the Wins pointers.
I found the place to do this in properties but where does
one get the value of the pointers?

Enable use of LMHOSTS file.

Then find out the ip address and name of the domain server on the remote
network.

Finally, add the appropriate domain server entries to your LMHOSTS file.
They'll look something like this:

123.456.789.53 corpdc1 #PRE #DOM:CORP
123.456.789.53 "CORP \0x1B" #PRE

where corpdc1 is the netbios name of the domain server
and CORP is the domain name.

Thank you for the reply. But I'm confused, when I list the displaydns with
ipconfig I get a huge list of servers. Can I just pick anyone of them or am
I looking in the wrong place?

You're looking at the wrong thing. You need to find out the info for the
DOMAIN server for the remote network, but you're looking at NAME servers...

Thanks again, but I still not quite sure if I'm on the right track. With an
online whois
app I was able to fetch this
Domain servers in listed order:
from Network Solutions Online search

These are the Domain servers fetched from out Domain Name registrar, they
reflect the servers of our ISP (which is different than our DN registrar
service.
Also in fetching what was referred to as Domain Name PTRs I got this,

---------So anyhow I searched for the lmhost file to see the format used
but I could not find one. Is what I need for the Wins pointers in the above
data?
Still confused, appreciate greatly any info.
