WINS components question

Hello all,

I am hoping someone can help answer a question I have.

When it comes to the 4 components of WINS (WINS server, WINS Clients, WINS
proxy agent and WINS database) Are any of these functions able to be combined
onto one computer or would I need 4 different computers for each of these
components?

No, 1 single server can cover 3 out of 4 but, since a WINS
proxy agent it is used to communicate with a WINS server on
a remote subnet you need atleast 2 computers although the WINS
proxy agent won't have any non-WINS clients to forward NetBIOS
broadcasts. The WINS server will act as a client as well registering
with it's local WINS database.
