WINIPCFG comes with W9x but not XP. If you have XP,
run CMD, then type IPCONFIG/ALL in the CMD window.

ipconfig provides the same command line capability.

You can download wntipcfg.exe from Microsoft which has the functionality
of winipcfg for Windows 20000 and Windows XP. The address is:

I have the wireless card on laptop and would like to utilize its benefits
such as accessing e mail when traveling. I like to be up with the latest
technology
and wireless is available in my area so I want to try it.

Understood - winipcfg or IPCONFIG simply displays your network
configuration. Try IPCONFIG /? | MORE

From the info below - you have an ip address, appear to be configured
correctly - and should be doing all internet functions. Is it working or is
it not working? If not - what specifically is not working?

Your original post was about a using a specific command - not about any
problems with your wireless network. The IPCONFIG / WINIPCFG commands show
configurations for each network device, and allow you to do some additional
functions for all networking devices wired and non-wired. It does not
directly allow you to "utilize its benefits such as accessing e mail when
traveling" or "being up with the latest technology and wireless available in
your area"

Not trying to be harsh - but you asked about a command - you got an answer.
Then you run the command - but you are not sure what the info means.

People are willing to help with problems - but aside from not knowing how to
run basic network commands and not understanding the basic network commands
output - what is your wireless problem?

I would suggest you see the following URL for how to address wireless
security issues (not sure if you have a Linksys or not - but the concepts
are general):

Thanks for the help, my question was about a command because in a previous
post I asked about
accessing hotspots but got no good reply.
I am trying to learn how to run basic network commands and understand the
basic network commands output.
My problem is simple but I don't know where to go.
I am connected but when I open IE it says no connection.
I use dial up and have no router but am trying to access outside sources.
Maybe my questions are basic but I have to start somewhere.
I have been to Practically Networked but nothing seems specific but if you
have any suggestions I am open to help.
A router is in my future to setup a home network but the basics need to be
learned first.

Let's start at the beginning (perhaps start a new thread)....

what is your exact problem? what is your exact configuration, setup,
hardware, software, oper. system, firewall s/w, etc?

Catch 22. You are going to need to be somewhere with public WiFi available
before you can configure your wireless NIC. What Operating system are you
using?
