Does anyone know of a tool similar (or a version of WINIPCFG) that you can
use to view the adapter information of a 98 machine on the network. I have a
lot of machines that are unattended when I need to view this information and
it would make life a lot easier if I could see this information remotely

winipcfg doesn't give all that much info, so it's a little hard to
understand what you need it for

arp (possibly combined with ping) can be used to learn the basics

if you're using DHCP, querying the DHCP server might also be possible

Basically I'd like to view the adapter information on a windows 98 machine
remotely. Specifically, the ip address and subnet mask. Also if there was
some remote way to get the adapter to release and renew would be good.

Since you speak of release and renew, you must be using DHCP. In that
case, it might be easier and more reliable to focus on the DHCP server
and gather (and manipulate) the information in which you're interested
via it.
