windows xp takes too much time to....

I apologise for cross posting but I am not sure where to post.

I have w2k server and windows xp client.

I have all my files on share drive on the server.

I start excel and then click on open then I arrow down to search the drive
and then files. Whenever I click on arrow down, it takes forever to bring
back the folder or drive and in the mean time if I click anywhere on the
screen, it says not responding.

I dont know whether it is DNS issue , Networking issue or setup issue.

I just want to be able to click a share drive and should be able to see the
file right a way.

What is the best solution ?

Make sure you don't have any drives mapped to servers that are not
available.
