Dear friends,

I have running 1 Windows server 2003 domaincontroller (kelder.local). Now I
join a default Windows XP Proferssional workstation to the "kelder.local"
domain. So far so good.

After joining the domain and logon to the server with username "herman" the
workstation creates a profile named "herman.000". The local workgroup user
is named "herman". In another situation the profile was named
"herman.kelder". The last one is the one it should be called I assume?!

How can I manage that the profiles will be called "username.domain" instead
of "username.000" ?

I tried all combinations to test if I do something wrong like deleting all
accounts and folders regarding the user "herman". Also create a local user
first and then the domain user doesn't work always!

What do I do worng here?
Is there a procedure to follow when using workstations on a Windows 2003
server?

Who can help me further with this situation?

Greetings,
Herman Franssen

Hello Herm,

It seems you want to have your user Herman from the domain Kelder
(Kelder\Herman) use a herman.Kelder folder under Documents and settings.

I'm not really sure what you want to accomplish. Why is it important the
folder be named Herman.Kelder?

When user Herman from Kelder domain logs in he will have a personal profile.
The user usually does not even know what the name of the profile folder is
and doesn't care. Sometimes the Administrator cares if he wants to migrate
Files and settings from the Local User's ("ComputerName"\Herman) profile to
the new profile for the Domain User. But if you migrate the files for him,
I would suggest you just leave the folder name as is since the user doesn't
care what it is.

Windows created a "Herman" folder when Herman logged in the first time (XP
installation or new user creation). It would have created the Herman.Kelder
folder when you attached the PC to the Kelder Domain and added user
Kelder\Herman to the machine, since folder Herman already existed. It would
create Herman.000 if you added another Herman or deleted Kelder\Herman and
added him again.

Hope this helps.

Hi Ivan,

* I'm not really sure what you want to accomplish. Why is it important the
folder be named Herman.Kelder?

Well when I logon to the W2K3 server for the very first time, it creates a
profile named "herman"
On this moment I have not created a local user herman!

For example when I configure email in Outlook Express and look afterwards in
the profiles, suddenly there is also a profile named "herman.kelder". This
folder just contains 2 folders wich one of them is the "application data"
folder. A bit strange isn't it.'

Like I told ya before in the past 2 or 3 times I did manage to create the
profiles named "user.domain". Don't ask me what I did at that time cause I
just don't know! But I do know that reproducing this is impossible for me it
seems :-( Murphy?

Greetings,
Herman
