Hi -

I'm having a problem that I just cannot resolve. I have about 15 computers
in AD domain and all of the desktop computers can log in fine, however, the
laptops (which are in their own OU) take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour
to log into the domain. I checked my Group Policy settings and deleted and
GPO's that were related to the laptops but they are still having the same
problem.

In addition (and I think this is related), I cannot PING any of the problem
computers. I have removed and reinserted several computers into the domain
but the same problem exists.

I have been trying to run the Group Policy Results wizard but it keeps
saying that the RPC server is unavailable when I try to get the results from
the problem computers.

I know that my DNS settings are correct and that everything is working fine
when it comes to the FRS replication and DNS portion of the domain but I
just cannot figure out where this is coming from...

Can someone please help me???

1. Turn off the stupid Windows Firewall on those machines
2. Make sure they get a proper IP config from DHCP,..or assign then
manually.
3. Configure the DNS properly. All machines on the LAN (I mean *all*) have
to use the AD/DNS for their DNS and *no* other.
4. The AD/DNS Service uses the ISP's DNS in the Forwarders List within the
DNS Service config. If a LAN Firewall/NAT Device is involved, it must allow
the AD/DNS to make outbound DNS Queries to the ISP's DNS.

I thought I would add that I have a simular problem. I run a lab with
all win2k machines. and a win2k3 AD server. Recently as a test I
installed XP on 2 machines. Those two machines take 5min to 15min to
log in, whereas the same user can log in instintly on a win2k machine
right next to it. I have checked all the settings and even gone as far
as creating a test user with no GP, and still no change in login time.

That might be this issue,...I don't know. I have personally never
experienced the problem.
