I have two computers. One is a tower and the other is a laptop with built in
wireless support. I am connecting to the internet via cable modem/Linksys
wireless router. I can't get the two units networked to see each other. I
have file and printer sharing turned on but I can't see the laptop or the
tower on each other. I also want to be able to share my printers over the
network from another computer when I am not in the room with the printers.

each machine must be in the same workgroup.
open the properties of "my computer"
go to tab "computer name"
check the name of workgroup
do it for each computer
if they are in different workgroups, change it on the same tab with "change"
button
make sure they are in the same workgroup now
restart each computers

i think "enable NETbios over TCP/IP" is disabled by
default in xp. without NETbios broadcasts or a DNS server
on your network, the two pc's have no way to resolve each
other's names. are they getting their IP addresses from
the linksys box via DHCP? can they ping each other by ip
address?
