I have a machine (station-1) running XP and another
machine (station-2) running 98. I connected these two
machines with a Ethernet straight through cable. With
this setup, I'm not able to see each other machines even
though they have the same Workgroup name.

I'm a missing anything here?

Please HELP!
Thanks in advance.

If you connect the computers directly to each other, you need a
crossover Ethernet cable. A straight through cable won't work.

If you are not useing a hub, switch or any other
conectivity device between the two systems other than the
network cards you will need a cross over cable where one
end is wired 568a and the other is wired 568b or buy an
inexpensive hub or switch
