I have two computers running Windows XP with the latest service packs. They
share printing just fine, although I can't seem to get them to have access
beyond visual, of each others drives. That is another question.
I just acquired an older Dell Inspiron 7500 PII 400, which is slow enough as
it is. The Laptop is currently running Windows 98, I don't know if it is SE
or not. I created a networking disk on my main XP computer and loaded it
onto the Laptop and after several frustrating restarts I managed somehow to
get the Network Neighborhood to automatically display the names of the other
two XP computers.
However, when I select them I get an error that they are not legitimate or
connectable computers. All the computers have file and print sharing active
on them.
And the names are correct because it created them in the window and they
match what the others are.
All I want to do is be able to print from the Laptop 98 to the XP machine
with the printer. When I try this through the Printer set up, network
connected printer, I get the same error when I try to select the computer
name that has the printer. What is up!?
