Is there any way of connecting a WFW to a file share on a
Windows 2003 SBS. I have a device with proprietary
software and hardware that is cost prohibitive to replace.
Authentication is hung-up at \Pipe\LANMAN (SMB Packet). I
believe I have Local Policy configured properly for access
though not for security.

You might get a better response in the sbs newsgroup

public.windows.server.sbs

My guess is that you will need to change the security settings on the
server. By default, W2k3 is set to require SMB signing (which WfW doesn't
support). I suspect this is also the case with sbs.

Beginning with Win2k3 Server, the server uses Kerbios underlying the
authentication. WFW cannot do do this. I don't belive there is anyway
to "fix" WFW other than update it to Win98 (perferably SE or ME). Most
software that ran on WFW should still run on at least Win98 or 98SE
(may not ME).

If your AD Domain is in "mixed mode" with at lease one Win2k DCs still
running on it then WFW probably would have worked, but in a pure
Win2k3 I don't think it will.

We have one WFW and about three DOS6.2 Clients (believe it or not) on
our system. My AD is all Win2k3 DCs but I have left it in "mixed mode"
even though there are no longer any Win2k DCs left running on it.

See my other post first....then

One workaround that my imgination can come up with is,.... if you have
the money, is to build up a second DC using Win2k and make it a New
Domain. You may have to research a little, but I think it must be also
a New Forest. Then set up a trust relationship with this Domain and
the Win2k3 Domain. Then the WFW machine can login to the new Win2k
Domain and access resources on the win2k3 Domain via the "Trust".

BTW - Good thing you brought this up, my W2k3 Domain is only in "mixed
mode" (Windows 2000 Native) because I forgot to bump up the Functional
Level after I got rid of the last win2k DC. Had I remembered to do
that our WFW and couple of DOS6.2 clients would have been screwed. Now
I know that I need to leave it the way it is until I ever get rid of
those old machines.
