I'm trying to install a little home lan here - Linksys
LNE100TX on an old desktop (Windows 98 SE) through a
wireless router to a new laptop. The lan seems to work
fine but the problem is that Windows on the old desktop
will not shut down when the lan card is installed.

Does anyone have any ideas for me?

Go to http://www.microsoft.com/windows98/d.../corporate.asp
Or ask by "shutdown supplement" under www.microsoft.com/windows98

I followed the path as you recommended - found and
installed two updates that applied to shut down problems.
Still be the same result - the system will restart but it
won't shut down.

Thanks for your help so far - do you or does anyone out
there have any other ideas?

Ummm... the protocol working must be the unique enable. If IPX or
another protocol is still running but is not necesary on your network,
delete it.
Otherwise, try updating the NIC's drivers.
Other way: run msconfig and check all the Start items and de-mark the
non-usefull issues. Reboot the machine.
Other idea: change of slot the NIC.

See if the network card is sharing an IRQ with something
else, if so, go into BIOS config and change the network
card to a different IRQ.
