Windows Vista / BT Home Hub wireless problem

A customer has a BT Home Hub. I changed it to use WPA-PSK encryption with a
factory-set key, and configured the Vista laptop to connect to the network.

But I found that when I rebooted the laptop, it woudl either fail to connect
(red cross on network icon) or else connect as "Local Only". In either case,
right-clicking on the icon and selecting Repair sorted out the connection -
until the next reboot.

Ipconfig showed that when the connection was in "Local Only" state (as
opposed to "Local and Internet") it was being given a sensible IP address
but the gateway, DNS and DHCP server fields were all blank, whereas in Local
and Internet state, those fields were present.

In Local state, the PC could browse to the router, but could not access any
external sites, probably because it didn't know what DNS server to use.

Any suggestions for what I might have configured wrongly?

The profile for the wireless connection to that SSID had the correct
encryption (WPA) and key, and was set to "Auto-connect".

(The problem was exacerbated by the Home Hub setting itself back to WEP
whenever I rebooted it, which I didn't notice for a while!)
