Hi
This is quite a bizzare problem thats causing me headaches and
sleepless nights so any help would be much apreicated.
The setup is this...
ServerA installed with Windows2003 Server Enterprise Edition SP1
ServerB installed with Windows2003 Server Standard Edition SP1
WorkstationA installed with Windows XP Professionsal SP2
Network is configured as such:
ServerA is at Site1 (Domain Controller with DNS)
ServerB is at Site2 (Domain Controller with DNS)
WorkstationA is at Site2
Currently there are all conected locally with 100Mbs Network Link
WorkstationA has its DNS servers pointed to ServerB only.
When logging on to WorkstationA and the link between ServerA and
ServerB is up everything works ok. The problem occurs when this link is
down.
The problem is this: When accessing any files, be it local on the C:
drive or from fileshare on ServerB it takes between 30 seconds to a
minute to do anything. Using netmon to see what is happening it seems
that something is trying to access ServerA and I see a SYN Sent Time
Wait appear trying to connect to ServerA, as soon as the TimeWait times
out the folders or files come up ok.
I have no idea what it is trying to communicate to ServerA for as the
files it is trying to locate are either local on the C drive or on the
SErverB file share...
My inclination is that it is trying to check permissions on ServerA
even though there is a perfectly good Domain Controller connected
locally (ServerB)
Does anyone have any idea what could be happening
