I have a Windows 2003 server at work, running IIS & ASP.net 2.0 to host
an intranet website.
I recently wanted to make a change to the intranet website, and being
the slacker that I am, I decided to directly copy the new files to the
server using the C$ administrative share.
It worked okay for a while, except when I used crimson editor to make a
change to the file after it was uploaded. Crimson seems to have a bad
implementation of windows sharing and, in short, crashed the server.
When sitting in front of the server, you would get no response to
mouse/keyboard movement, and the services it was running (IIS, terminal
services) didn't work. (But you could still ping the machine, oddly
enough) We rebooted, and it came back up fine. But ever since then, the
machine has been sluggish. Mouse movement has been really choppy, and
the system still hangs every couple of days. Task manager does not show
any processes taking unusual amounts of processing or memory.
I've committed similar mistakes before while playing around with
windows sharing. I'll do something a little strange, the machine will
hang, and it will never be quite the same again.
I've tried looking for help online, but I'm not sure how to phrase the
problem in a search-engine friendly way. Any help you guys could give
me would be awesome.
Thanks!
