What are you referring to as "read only access" ?
What shows in the properties of a folder as "read only"
has no bearing/relevance on the read-only attribute of
the folder but is instead a three-way switch that can be
used to set/unset the read-only attribute on contained
files in the substructure under that folder. After use
it returns to the third, inactive display look.
Share-level permissions are controlled with the button
labelled "Permissions" in the sharing tab of a folder's
properties. The default does not grant write.
