If you want to keep your Internet connection active, you will need to
clear the "Use default gateway.." box in the client. Otherwise all Internet
traffic will be directed to the VPN server. See KB 254231.
If this box is checked, the default gateway of the client will be the
"received" IP address. This is the address of the VPN interface, and means
that all traffic will be sent over the VPN point-to-point link.
