Windows Server 2003 has 2 Distinct names

I'm in charge of some 100 PC's and the dc is windows server 2003.
Since I'm quit new administrator I see that the server name as
reflected in the computer properties is different than its name if I
ping to him with tracert.
Can someone advise where does it take its second name and how to have just
one name in all indications?

Posting the results of tarcert the DC and ipconfig /all on the DC may help.
