Hi,

i don't know if this is the right newsgroup for tjhis question ...

I use Windows Search 4.0 on a Windows 2003 Member Server (e.g.:
\\memberserver) with 1 Terrabyte of data.
The Windows XP Clients where also Windows Search (WS) is installed, do have
a network connection to a share of this member server (e.g.:
\\memberserver\share)
Lets say they have a mapped network drive G: on \\memberserver\share
Now, their Windows Search is configured with 2 indexes:
- One remote for the network drive G: (otfs://{*}/g/).
- One local for the My Documents folder.
What I see on the clients is, that the number of indexed files is very
large, larger than the number of possible local documents in the My Document
folder.
Question:
It seems that Windows Search creates an index for the remote drive G on the
client
In the documentation of Windows Search, there is said that indexes on remote
machines can be used with Windows Search.
Why does WS build an index for the remote share?

Manfred
